Titanium

Titanium concentrate is extracted from ilmenite or titanomagnetite through smelting and processing. It is black-gray, powdery, and has a metallic luster. The main components are titanium dioxide, ferric oxide, iron oxide, and a small amount of phosphorus, sulfur, magnesium, and calcium. It is the raw material for the production of titanium dioxide which is widely used, and it is also used in metal titanium (titanium sponge), titanium-containing steel and electrode coating.

Titanium: element symbol Ti, atomic number 22, atomic weight 47.88, located in group IVB of period 4 in the periodic table of elements. Titanium is one of the elements with wide distribution and high abundance (6320×10-6) in the earth’s crust, accounting for 0.61% of the earth’s crust and ranking ninth; while titanium resources rank second only to iron, aluminum, and magnesium. The 4th place is an important raw material for producing titanium slag, artificial rutile, titanium dioxide, titanium sponge, titanium metal and titanium material, and electrode coating.

Because titanium metal is silver-white, it has high melting point (1727°C), light specific gravity (4.5), high mechanical strength (5), low temperature resistance (resistivity is almost 0 at ultra-low temperature), abrasion resistance, and good plasticity of linear titanium (energy Thin-walled use), not easy to oxidize, strong reduction, etc.; Titanium oxide - titanium dioxide (titanium white), has good physical and chemical stability (not soluble in any acid and alkali after calcination at 1000 ° C), refractive index High (2.55-2.70), strong whiteness, tinting strength (1150-1650), hiding power (40-50g/m2), temperature resistance, chalking resistance, etc., known as the "king of pigments" .

Therefore, titanium and its oxides and alloy products are important coatings, new structural materials, and anti-corrosion materials. They are known as "the third metal in development after iron and aluminum" and "strategic metals", and are also "very promising". "Metal materials" are widely used in aviation, aerospace, ships, military industry, metallurgy, chemical industry, machinery, electric power, seawater desalination, transportation, light industry, environmental protection, medical equipment and other fields, and have created a huge economic Benefits and social benefits have an important position and role in the development of the national economy.
